INRAE presentation
INRAE, the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment, is a public research organization bringing together 12,000 employees across 272 units in 18 centers across France. As the world’s leading institute specializing in agriculture, food, and the environment, INRAE plays a key role in supporting the necessary transitions to address global challenges.
Faced with population growth, food security challenges, climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss, INRAE is committed to developing scientific solutions and supporting the evolution of agricultural, food, and environmental practices.
Work environment, missions and activities
Nature and purpose of the research project to be developed and related activitiesClimate Change (CC), marked by rising temperatures and the emergence of new diseases, poses major challenges for aquaculture. In this context, understanding and mobilising the mechanisms of cellular resilience is essential to strengthening animal resistance and guaranteeing stable production. Our research emphasizes the importance of cellular stress response pathways (NRF2, UPR, HIF, autophagy) in the adaptation of animals to environmental disturbances. These responses can be modulated by diet, meaning these mechanisms can be “levers” to improve animal resilience. You will study the various effects of stress (temperature, hypoxia, pathogens) on these mechanisms in rainbow trout and assess to what extent the responses are modulated by diet. You will also analyse how these adaptation needs are associated or not with a decrease in the impacts of farming on the environment.
Nature and purpose of the teaching project
The learning objectives of this position concern cell physiology as well as cellular and molecular biology with emphasis on the key concepts (metabolism, cell homeostasis, physiological adaptation), cutting-edge techniques (genetic manipulations), and the aquaculture sector. You will teach several levels within the STEE College of the UPPA, in particular the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (Food science and biotechnology) and the Bio-Industries and Biotechnologies Professional Degree (Aquaculture of Micro-Algea and Economic Revalorisation). Finally, in the medium term, you will participate in the International Master’s on fish nutrition currently being developed by the NuMeA unit.

Training and skills
Training:
The chair is intended for scientists with a PhD in Biology who have already demonstrated their ability to produce outstanding research.
Skills required:
The skills required for this profile are primarily in animal physiology and cellular and molecular biology. More specifically, you must have sound skills in studying cell stress response pathways and good knowledge of the challenges linked to climate change. Understanding the scientific objectives of INRAE will enable you to rapidly appropriate the interrogations of the project and the unit. From a methodological point of view, you should have excellent command of molecular biology techniques and advanced skills in bioinformatics, in particular for the analysis of the omics data (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic). Experience in cell cultures and functional genomics would also be a valuable asset. In addition to technical skills, you should also demonstrate the ability to develop a network of partners, the proven aptitude to work in a team, the capacity to initiate, set up and manage large-scale scientific projects, and have a good command of both written and spoken scientific English.
INRAE's life quality
By joining our teams, you benefit from:
- 30 days of annual leave + 15 days "Reduction of Working Time" (for a full time);

Type of contract
Tenure-Track Junior Professor Chair enables recruitment of scientists based on a research and teaching project that lasts three years. At the end of this period, and following an assessment of your scientific achievements and professional capabilities, you may obtain a full-tenure position as Research Director (DR2).
A research and teaching agreement will specify the path you will follow towards full-tenure and enable you to acquire the qualifications necessary to become a full-tenure Research Director in your field.
You have until April 12, 2024 to submit your application. Only candidates previously selected on file by the selection committee will be invited to the hearing.
All persons employed by or hosted at INRAE, a public research establishment, are subject to the Civil Service Code, particularly with regard to the obligation of neutrality and respect for the principle of secularism. In carrying out their functions, whether or not they are in contact with the public, they must not express their religious, philosophical or political convictions through their behaviour or by what they wear. > Find out more: fonction publique.gouv.fr website (in French)
