INRAE presentation

INRAE, the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment, is a public research organization bringing together 12,000 employees across 272 units in 18 centers across France. As the world’s leading institute specializing in agriculture, food, and the environment, INRAE plays a key role in supporting the necessary transitions to address global challenges.

Faced with population growth, food security challenges, climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss, INRAE is committed to developing scientific solutions and supporting the evolution of agricultural, food, and environmental practices.

Work environment, missions and activities

Nature and purpose of the research project to be developed and related activities
The project comprises two complementary themes: (i) Understanding microbial systems under biomanufacturing conditions focusing on interactions between endogenous and synthetic metabolism and the appearance of population heterogeneity or toxicity phenomena impacting the stability and resistance of bioprocesses. (ii) Implementation of control systems (optogenetic or others) of biomolecule synthesis pathways to modulate the appearance and/or persistence of sub-populations that could be harmful to biomanufacturing processes. You will establish multifactorial models capable of guiding the rational design of yeast strains by finding the right balance between the production capacity of the modified strains, their resistance, and their stability. This research is in synergy with the work already conducted at TBI and will contribute significantly to establishing resilient, high-intensity biomanufacturing systems.

Nature and purpose of the teaching project
The Department of Biochemical Engineering provides state-of-the-art teaching, incorporating the latest scientific knowledge and advances in the field. Your recruitment in the field of systems and synthetic biology in microorganisms will help develop new disciplinary fields essential to the speciality, in particular synthetic biology in cell systems through the integration of innovative technology linked to the control of the outcome of cells in bioreactors. The teacher will participate in teaching metabolic biochemistry, physiology and genetics to years 4 and 5 of the INSA curriculum (engineering degree, Bioeco Master’s, project-based learning, challenge-based learning within the framework of ECIU, iGEM competition, etc.). These skills will feed the specialist lessons and will open up the field to new teaching projects in connection with the research, strengthening ties with the TBI laboratory.

Type of contract

Tenure-Track Junior Professor Chair enables recruitment of scientists based on a research and teaching project that lasts three years. At the end of this period, and following an assessment of your scientific achievements and professional capabilities, you may obtain a full-tenure position as Research Director (DR2).

A research and teaching agreement will specify the path you will follow towards full-tenure and enable you to acquire the qualifications necessary to become a full-tenure Research Director in your field.

You have until May 28, 2025 to submit your application. Only candidates previously selected on file by the selection committee will be invited to the hearing.

All persons employed by or hosted at INRAE, a public research establishment, are subject to the Civil Service Code, particularly with regard to the obligation of neutrality and respect for the principle of secularism. In carrying out their functions, whether or not they are in contact with the public, they must not express their religious, philosophical or political convictions through their behaviour or by what they wear.  > Find out more: fonction publique.gouv.fr website (in French)
