INRAE presentation

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) is a major player in research and innovation. It is a community of 12,000 people with 272 research, experimental research, and support units located in 18 regional centres throughout France. Internationally, INRAE is among the top research organisations in the agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences, as well as in ecology and environmental science. It is the world’s leading research organisation specialising in agriculture, food and the environment. INRAE’s goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. Faced with a growing world population, climate change, resource scarcity, and declining biodiversity, the Institute has a major role to play in building solutions and supporting the necessary acceleration of agricultural, food and environmental transitions.

Work environment, missions and activities

Tasks

  • Analysis of pepper diversity and its impact on the adaptation of pathogen populations.
  • Search for locus determining agronomic traits.
  • Establishment of a procedure to facilitate the linking of phenotypic databases with EURISCO.

Responsibilities

The candidate will participate in two ongoing projects: the ANR COMBINE project and the European PRO-GRACE project. Main tasks include:

  1. Carrying out population genetic analyses using phenotypic and sequencing data on a population of ~600 plants sampled from several producers,
  2. Identification of significant associations between phenotypic and genomic diversity,
  3. Definition of a procedure to improve the link between the phenotypic databases and EURISCO,
  4. Contributing to the production of deliverables on the standardization of phenotyping protocols and on the interconnection between the genebanks' own phenotypic databases and EURISCO.

The candidate will also:

  • Produce a literature review on landraces and the standardization of phenotyping data,
  • Update a directory of genes of interest,
  • Write reports in English.

Working environment

  • The GAFL unit is developing research into fruit and vegetable genetics to contribute to the ecological transition. The ReDD team focuses on deciphering the genetic and functional bases of disease resistance and on the diversity of resistance factors.
