INRAE presentation

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) is a major player in research and innovation. It is a community of 12,000 people with 272 research, experimental research, and support units located in 18 regional centres throughout France. Internationally, INRAE is among the top research organisations in the agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences, as well as in ecology and environmental science. It is the world’s leading research organisation specialising in agriculture, food and the environment. INRAE’s goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. Faced with a growing world population, climate change, resource scarcity, and declining biodiversity, the Institute has a major role to play in building solutions and supporting the necessary acceleration of agricultural, food and environmental transitions.

Work environment, missions and activities

  • You will be welcomed into the ECP (Espèces Cibles Protéagineux) team at UMR 1347 Agroécologie in Dijon and your tasks will fall within the framework of the European project BELIS (Breeding European Legumes for Increased Sustainability). The ECP team is a multidisciplinary research team specialised in the study of grain legumes. It develops genetic and genomic resources for pea, faba bean and lentil and invests in varietal improvement of these species. It carries out its research and pre-breeding activities in collaboration with a network of actors at national and international level.
  • You will be in charge of the management of a Neo4J graph-type knowledge base dedicated to translational research in legumes, OrthoLegKB. The OrthoLegKB database was published in Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence in 2023. It currently integrates numerous genetic and omics data from 5 seed legume species and the model legume Medicago truncatula. You will be required to interact with the BELIS project network to continue the collection, curation and integration of data and to introduce new species of grain and forage legumes. You will ensure the proper functioning of the database and manage database updates and data integration pipelines (nextflow, python). Finally, you will query the database to address scientific questions and develop new modules to enrich the current schema and respond to the emerging needs of the project consortium.

Special conditions of activity: You will be welcomed into a multidisciplinary research team and work closely with researchers and breeders involved in grain and forage legume improvement. You will need to demonstrate a strong motivation for database management and translational research and have a sound knowledge of bioinformatics and code management.

Training and skills
