INRAE presentation

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) is a major player in research and innovation. It is a community of 12,000 people with 272 research, experimental research, and support units located in 18 regional centres throughout France. Internationally, INRAE is among the top research organisations in the agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences, as well as in ecology and environmental science. It is the world’s leading research organisation specialising in agriculture, food and the environment. INRAE’s goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. Faced with a growing world population, climate change, resource scarcity, and declining biodiversity, the Institute has a major role to play in building solutions and supporting the necessary acceleration of agricultural, food and environmental transitions.

Work environment, missions and activities

You will be integrated into the "Bird Metabolism, Quality and Adaptation" (MOQA) team of the Joint Research Unit "Biology of Birds and Poultry Farming," headed by Elisabeth Le Bihan-Duval. This unit aims to generate knowledge in the fields of physiology and genetics and to contribute to the development of sustainable farming systems that integrate animal health and welfare (AHW) for high-quality animal products. Recruitment will be conducted within the framework of the MOQA team's activities on the regulation of bird metabolism in response to variations in their early environment, particularly during egg incubation.

Incubation parameters such as temperature and gas concentrations into the incubator can have long-term effects on the growth performance and metabolism of broiler chickens. They can also affect welfare and health parameters such as redox status, heat tolerance, and susceptibility to muscle dysregulation, all of which are important for poultry meat quality. You will participate in the analysis of gene expression regulation and biochemical parameters, and in the dissemination of these results through publications in various biological models related to the early environment of birds.

Your main activity will be to ensure, under the supervision of Anne Collin, Research Director, within the MOQA team, and in collaboration with the biostatistician Lise Pomiès from the UMR BOA:

  • Monitoring an experiment testing egg incubation parameters;
  • Statistical analysis, formatting of results, and their publication with respect to two broiler chicken egg incubation models.
