Work environment, missions and activities

You will join the Human Nutrition Unit within the Metabolism Exploration Platform (PFEM), a mass spectrometry (MS) platform dedicated to metabolism studies, with national and international recognition, particularly in the field of metabolomics applied to nutrition and health. Its metabolomics component is part of the Human Nutrition Unit (UNH) at the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE). PFEM’s research activities focus on the development of MS-based analytical methods and bioinformatics tools, with the overall aim of enabling better characterization of metabolic alterations associated with the development of chronic metabolic diseases and of investigating the relationships between nutrition and health.

PFEM is affiliated with the national research consortium MetaboHUB (MTH). Within the “Data and Knowledge Management” division of the MTH-Core Joint Service Unit (UMS), you will contribute to the implementation, evolution, and operational maintenance of the information systems supporting the MetaboHUB infrastructure, in response to the needs of projects and users.

Your role will involve operating and developing the infrastructure’s core web applications, in particular MAMA (analysis request management webapp) and GRANDMA (report generation and validation tool). You will be responsible for corrective and evolutionary maintenance, user support, as well as the design, development, and documentation of new features, working closely with project teams.

You will work across the entire application stack (front-end, back-end, APIs, databases, and integration with information systems), applying software development best practices, particularly with regard to testing (unit, integration, and automated testing) and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).

You will be more specifically in charge of:

• contributing to the administration of supporting information systems (approximately 10% of the role), in particular through the management of user accounts on collaboration and development tools (Nextcloud, INRAE software forge).
• contributing to the monitoring of the AgroDataRing project (approximately 10%), which is dedicated to the archiving and valorization of scientific data. In this context, you will provide support to the IT teams at remote sites in administering MetaboHUB nodes, in order to ensure consistent, harmonized, and sustainable data management across the consortium.

Training and skills

Recommended training: Master’s degree (M2) in bioinformatics / computer science

Desired knowledge: 

• Proficiency in web development technologies and tools, particularly TypeScript, Webpack, React.js, and Express
• Good knowledge of continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) practices, particularly in the GitLab environment (pipelines, runners)
• Proficiency in Git and associated workflows (branch management, merge requests, code reviews, versioning)
• Experience designing and using REST APIs, with good command of documentation standards such as OpenAPI
• Experience implementing testing strategies (unit, integration, and automated testing) integrated into CI/CD pipelines; familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible
• Proficiency in relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and in SQL
• Awareness of application security issues (authentication, authorization management, OWASP best practices)
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation (architecture, APIs, installation and operational procedures)
• Knowledge of cloud environments, particularly OpenStack
• Proficiency in PHP (Symfony, Doctrine) and Bootstrap would be an advantage

Appreciated experience: 

• Solid experience in full-stack web development
• Experience with project management and documentation tools (software forges, ticketing systems, wikis)
• Experience with application virtualization and containerization using Docker and Docker Compose
