INRAE presentation

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) is a major player in research and innovation. It is a community of 12,000 people with 272 research, experimental research, and support units located in 18 regional centres throughout France. Internationally, INRAE is among the top research organisations in the agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences, as well as in ecology and environmental science. It is the world’s leading research organisation specialising in agriculture, food and the environment. INRAE’s goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. Faced with a growing world population, climate change, resource scarcity, and declining biodiversity, the Institute has a major role to play in building solutions and supporting the necessary acceleration of agricultural, food and environmental transitions.

Work environment, missions and activities

You will join the Vine Health and Wine Quality (SVQV) research unit at the INRAE Grand Est-Colmar center, within the Grapevine Genetics and Breeding team. The team coordinates the Horizon Europe project GrapeBreed4IPM, which aims to which aims to accelerate the development and deployment of disease-resistant grapevine varieties adapted to climate change.

Your work will contribute directly to the project’s goal of improving the understanding of agronomic trait architecture and strengthening genomic selection strategies for future breeding programs.

You will be responsible for:

* Organizing and co-coordinating upcoming data acquisition campaigns on ongoing field experiments.
* Conducting quantitative genetic analyses to dissect the genetic determinism of key agronomic traits, both advantageous and undesirable.
* Developing, optimizing, and evaluating genomic prediction models to enhance selection schemes integrating genomic selection.
* Contributing to scientific publications, data valorization, and project reporting at national and European levels.

Training and skills

Master's degree/Engineering degree
  • Required education: PhD in quantitative genetics, evolutionary biology, genomics or a related field with strong background in statistical modeling and data analysis
  • Technical knowledge: solid understanding of plant genetics; knowledge of viticulture or grapevine biology is a significant advantage.
  • Appreciated experience: QTL and GWAS analyses, genomic or multi-omic prediction, field trial management and phenotyping under natural conditions.
  • Skills and abilities: ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, scientific rigor, autonomy, and adaptability. Strong writing skills and ability to communicate results clearly.

INRAE's life quality

By joining our teams, you benefit from (depending on the type of contract and its duration):

- up to 30 days of annual leave + 15 days "Reduction of Working Time" (for a full time);
parenting support: CESU childcare, leisure services;
- skills development systems: trainingcareer advise;
social support: advice and listening, social assistance and loans;
holiday and leisure services: holiday vouchers, accommodation at preferential rates;
