Work environment, missions and activities
The joint research unit Physiology of Reproduction and Behaviour (PRC) located in Nouzilly, near Tours, conducts fundamental and applied research on reproductive function and on sexual, emotional and social behaviors in farm animals and model animals.
Within this unit, you will join the Biology & Bioinformatics of Signaling Systems team, made up of 13 permanent members. The work of this team aims to provide fundamental knowledge on cell signaling networks induced by receptors coupled to G proteins involved in reproduction and social interactions. The applications of this work will constitute the development of new pharmacological approaches in farm animals and in humans.
You will complement the team's skills in systems biology and artificial intelligence applied to the biology of cell signaling and will work in close collaboration with the joint INRAE-INRIA-CNRS MUSCA team-project (Multiscale population dynamics in physiological systems) to which part of your host team is attached. The main aims of your project will consist in (i) developing a statistical inference of signaling networks of interest by automatic text mining and databases available in the literature; (ii) relate the state of a signaling network to cell fate and physiological state, through deep learning methods; (iii) predict the disturbance effects of these networks, their dynamics and their physiological consequences by combining mathematical modeling and machine learning, in the continuity of the multi-scale models developed in the team.
In the short term, the priority will be to understand the mechanisms by which the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) signaling network controls proliferation / differentiation transitions that play a key role in reproductive function. For this, the first step will consist in better characterizing the temporal evolution of the FSH signaling network during gametogenesis.
Training and skills
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent.
The project requires advanced skills in systems biology, solid knowledge of artificial intelligence (machine learning, automatic language processing, expert system, etc.) and statistics (inference, learning). Experience in the modeling of biological networks will be favorably considered, as well as, more generally, in the computational modeling of living organisms.
Proficiency in English is desirable as well as long-term international experience: successful candidates who have not yet had one will have to go abroad at the end of the internship year.
