Work environment, missions and activities
You will be recruited in the MetaGenoPolis Unit (MGP) in the INRAE center of Jouy-en-Josas on the InfoBioStat platform (IBS).
MGP has international leadership in the understanding of the microbiota-host symbiosis. The main purpose of MGP is to characterise the different facets of the human and animal microbiota, to understand its impact on health, well-being and disease, the impact of food on it and to build models and tools in order to modulate it and improve health and well-being. Activity of MGP is oriented towards partnership and research projects, funded or co-funded by public and/or industrial partners. To answer scientific questions, MGP makes available to the academic and industrial community a set of ISO9001:2015 certified high-throughput platforms deploying quantitative and functional metagenomics approaches.
The InfoBioStat platform (IBS, composed of fifteen people), posseses a cutting-edge expertise in the characterization of microbial ecosystems. IBS deploys all the required computing facilities (storage and computation) and carries on bioinformatics, statistical and mathematical research and development activities in order to integrate the –omics, phenotypic and environmental data. These cover the development of software and databases for the expert analysis of the microbiota and its modelling (with artificial intelligence approaches for example).
Within IBS, you will be in charge of the development of scientific topics in order to expand the field of knowledge on the human and animal microbiota by considering the holobiont as a whole. You will contribute to the design and development of innovative bioinformatics methods for characterizing complex microbial populations, their assembly and their functional potential. Your activities will take place in the context of the new opportunities and challenges arising from the forthcoming deluge of microbiome-related data from major national and international projects in which MGP participates.
You will take part in the construction and coordination of collaborative projects with academic, clinical and industrial partners. You will also participate in building networks of national and international collaborations in the field of the human and animal microbiome. As MGP stands at the interface of an interconnected network of scientists within INRAE, you will take part in the design of inter-unit projects with a variety of skills, requiring the building of interdisciplinary synergies to develop methodologies for innovative microbiome exploration.
Finally, you will be involved in the scientific animation of the Unit and will help to pursue and expand the international collaborations of MGP. You will also participate to the supervising and training of the collaborators in MGP. Finally, you will be involved in raising the general public’s awareness of the human and animal microbiome research, for instance via citizen science projects as well as dedicated training or teaching sessions.
Training and skills
Position open to candidates with a doctorate (or equivalent).
Proficiency in english with long-term international experience is required.
The expected profile is an experienced researcher with a capacity for methodological development and interfacing and with a strong potential to develop the scientific strategy of MGP over the next 4-5 years.
